A Mexican gang leader was about to get married, but learned of an assassination plan against him. He changed the location of the wedding ceremony with catastrophic consequences for another (innocent) newlyweds.

The wedding of 'El Frank', the boss of a Mexican hitman cartel, was said to take place last week in a church in the center of the town of Caborca in northern Mexico, not far from the US border.

Other location

But he learned that a rival gang knew about the upcoming wedding, so he and his bride-to-be decided to change the wedding venue. He did arrange for another couple to take their place in the original spot, to act as bait. A teacher and an engineer from the locality had just said yes at church. As they walked out, the man was shot in the head by a gang member who thought he had "El Frank."

Bled to death

The bride's white dress was covered in blood after she wrapped her arms around her shot husband. According to the newspaper El Pais, an ambulance arrived after half an hour. The 32-year-old man bled to death at the time in the presence of his family who had tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate him.

About the same time as the mistaken murder, 170 kilometers away, gang leader 'El Frank', the actual target of the attack, married his girlfriend. For the first few days after the murder, it was unclear why the innocent couple were victims. Media in Mexico write that the authorities speak of "a lot of confusion", but that no one has yet been arrested for the murder.
